Photo Friday: Sanctury of Sikhism

Golden Temple, Amritsar

A Sikh man gazes across the holy water at the gleaming Golden Temple

The Golden Temple in Amritsar, also known as the Harmandir Sahib, is Sikhism’s most holy temple. It is a truly awesome sight to behold, the gold gleaming in the sunlight above & reflecting in the lake’s holy water below. There is a sense of calm around the complex & the atmosphere is one of awe as Sikhs come in huge numbers to pay homage to their 10 masters & catch a glimpse of the Guru Granth Sahib, their holy book housed inside the temple.

A truly awesome experience & surely one of the most beautiful temples in the world.

  1. Nice pic.

My visit (many moons ago) was during the day but my mother’s last visit (last yr) was early hours of the morning, when they carry the Guru Granth Sahib Ji to the Golden Temple, truely amazing moment!
